About Me
Writing bios make my head hurt! Instead, I will answer some of the most frequently asked questions I get when meeting new folks.
Where are you from? Indianapolis, Indiana, originally, but I have been living in North Carolina for the last 10 years?
Why did you move here? I needed a teaching job and they cut something like 5,000 teachers the year I graduated. I was 31 and single, so why not move to warmer weather where they also have teaching positions?
Did you like teaching? I loved teaching and connecting with my 3rd graders but did not like being a classroom teacher in NC. I wanted to inspire kids to love learning and the legislature kept passing more and more standardized testing initiatives. I left the classroom 3/4 years in and became a school librarian and discovered the dream job that I never knew I wanted. I was incredibly blessed to be a K-8 librarian for 6 years and miss it.
Why did you quit? So many reasons but the main two were that it cost more than I made as a teacher/librarian to pay for daycare and gas each month and I had my second child in the heart of a pandemic so sending him to a daycare full of germs was not optimal.
How old are your kids? I have two boys, Willy, age 4, and Harry, age 1.
What do you do for fun? Well, when I am not doing the glamorous mama duties of wiping butts and playing superheroes, I read, sing, cook, and make sarcastic comments.
Why a blog? Why not? No, really, why not? I want to help women feel empowered and less alone in the world. I am on a journey of self acceptance and discovering who I am now that I am a mom and wife later in life than I thought I'd be. I can't be the only one, right? Right? Oh, geez...maybe I am. Nope, I refuse to believe that. I will find my people!
